The Mercati di Traiano: was it really the first shopping center in history?

The name of this innovative place in the center of Trajan’s Forum tells us about merchandise, spices, ancient eating habits, but we will discover that there was much more, this was the seat of important business affecting the entire Roman Empire.
We will visit this huge “business center” together and take the opportunity to also understand how the ancient Romans fed and what customs our ancestors had in the kitchen. The museum also preserves beautiful models of the Imperial Forums as well as precious fragments of them.

We will look out from the panoramic terrace that opens in front of the Trajan’s Column and finally we will admire a suggestive collection of Roman amphorae of all sizes that carried many different foods, coming from all the sea routes on the Mediterranean
